About Us

Ecumenical Enterprises, Inc. is a non-profit, faith-based organization that had its humble beginnings in the 1960’s when a group of concerned religious and lay leaders, led by the late Reverend Dr. Jule Ayers and the late Monsignor Donald McAndrews, began discussing ways to assist the community with moderate to low income housing in the greater Wyoming Valley area. In about a year or so, and after urging varied church organizations to get involved, this group nurtured the sponsorship of four diverse but socially committed religious bodies to form Ecumenical Enterprises, Inc., a name created by one of the original incorporators, Frank N. Henry. The four sponsors, namely, the First Presbyterian Church of Wilkes-Barre, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, the Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes-Barre, and the Metropolitan Lutheran Council of Wyoming Valley, appointed five representatives each to the Board of Directors. Since that inception, Ecumenical Enterprises, Inc. has grown to include a total of 7 housing complexes, a 130-bed skilled nursing facility and 66-bed personal care continuing care retirement community.
