The rehab department had a wonderful visitor! Shirley returned to our skilled nursing and rehab facility with a handmade afghan to give to our current residents. Shirley received inpatient rehab services for 8 weeks following a fall and femur fracture. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our therapists she was able to return home independently. She expressed gratitude to the care she received while at The Meadows.

Shirley’s Success Story

Margaret, “Maggie”, is a vibrant woman who came to the Meadows after experiencing a stroke. Maggie was home and was healing from previous surgeries and injuries when she woke up one morning unable to move her left arm. Prior to her stroke, Maggie was independent with her daily tasks including walking, dressing, and bathing. She worked hard during her 2 week stay at the Meadows
and met her goal of returning home. Though her progression continues, she remains motivated and will receive therapy in the home.
The Meadows has “always been a part of my family.” Maggie’s grandmother, Hilda Lanning, was the first resident at the Meadows Skilled Nursing Center. Maggie’s mother then volunteered here after her mother, Hilda’s, stay and later was a resident herself. Maggie’s sister also worked as a nurse at the Meadows for a few years. Maggie states, “Everybody is willing to do for you and help you. The girls down here (in therapy) are wonderful.” Mike is Ace! He put a smile on my face every day! Everybody was very helpful.”

William “Bill”, is an active gentleman who came to the Meadows after complications with Lower Extremity cellulitis and increased weakness resulting in a hospital stay. He lives locally in Dallas with his daughters, but was independent prior to his hospitalization. Bill was working part time and his goal was to be able to return to his same line of work once discharged. He worked hard during his stay with Physical and Occupational therapy in order to regain his strength and mobility. Bill engaged in exercises to help improve his balance, strength, using resistance and weights. “I enjoyed getting my legs to move. I want to stay active and I don’t want to sit.” Bill said. He met his goals during his stay and progressed from a walker to a cane to return safely back home. He will soon return to work and get back to enjoying time with family.
From Bill:
“I’m delighted with the skill level and capabilities that are here. I think it’s a fantastic staff
and the facility is great. It meets all of the needs and more people need to be aware of it and
how great of a place this facility is. The Therapy staff .excellent! The nursing staff is just as
well too. I’m very thankful for all of the help.”

Al’s Success Story

I came to The Meadows following a medical crisis that left me weak and unable to stand and walk independently.

I received Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy services. Improvement was evident each day. Physical and occupational therapy were key to my being able to stand, balance, walk and perform tasks independently in preparation to return home and back to my normal life.

I am so grateful for the therapists, their patience, friendly manner and upbeat personalities. They are knowledgeable, compassionate and invested in their field and strive for a positive outcome for their patients.
